What is a WordPress Template?

A WordPress template, also known as a theme, is a customizable design for your WordPress CMS website. By installing a new template, you can easily change the appearance and layout of your website. Despite its simplicity, a WordPress template contains all the necessary source files that can be customized to suit your needs.

Exploring the Template Structure

Inside the Archi WordPress theme package, you’ll find several folders that provide various resources for your website:

  • The screenshots folder contains visual representations of the template, but these files are not necessary for editing the template.
  • The theme folder comprises the WordPress theme files, including the theme-name.zip file. This archive contains all the files required for the theme and should be installed through the WordPress extension manager.
  • The sample_data folder contains files that replicate the appearance of our live demo WordPress website. This includes the content.xml file, which contains sample data such as posts, pages, and categories, and the widgets.wie file for widget settings.
  • The manual_install folder contains additional files for replicating the live demo appearance. It includes the uploads folder for theme images and the theme-name.sql file, which holds the theme content in a database format.
  • The documentation.txt file provides easy access to the theme’s documentation.
  • The info.txt file offers instructions on extracting the source files.

Preparing for Installation

Before you dive into creating your WordPress website, it’s important to make sure you have everything ready. Here are a few aspects you should consider:

Software

To begin working with the Archi WordPress theme, you’ll need the following software:

  1. To extract files from the password-protected sources_#########.zip archive, you can use software like WinZip 9 or later (for Windows OS) or Stuffit Expander 10 or later (for Mac OS).
  2. If you wish to customize the graphic design and images of the template, Adobe Photoshop will come in handy.
  3. For editing the source code of the template, code editors like Adobe Dreamweaver, Notepad++, or Sublime Text are recommended.
  4. To upload files to your hosting server, you’ll need an FTP manager such as Total Commander, FileZilla, or CuteFTP.

Hosting

As WordPress CMS is built on PHP and MySQL, you need to prepare your hosting server accordingly.

If you already have a hosting server, ensure that it meets the requirements for hosting a WordPress website. Our theme specifically requires Apache or Nginx hosting servers with the following configuration settings:

Recommended Configuration
  • In your php.ini file, define:

    • ‘max_execution_time’ => 60
    • ‘memory_limit’ => 128
    • ‘post_max_size’ => 8
    • ‘upload_max_filesize’ => 8
    • ‘max_input_time’ => 45
    • ‘file_uploads’ => ‘on’
    • ‘safe_mode’ => ‘off’
  • In your .htaccess file, include:

    • ‘php_value max_execution_time’ => 60
  • In your wp-config.php file, add:

    • ‘set_time_limit’ => 60
  • Ensure you have at least 50 MB of disk space.

  • The memory limit per process should be 64mb, although we recommend 128mb or more.

PHP and MySQL Requirements

The minimum required versions are PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5. However, PHP 5.2 has known vulnerabilities that can jeopardize your website’s security. Some theme extensions may not work with PHP 5.2 and may require version 5.4 or later.

We recommend the following settings:

  • mod_rewrite
  • php fopen
  • suPHP

Alternatively, if you prefer, you can install WordPress on your PC or laptop using a local server. Software such as WAMP, AppServ, or MAMP supports WordPress and can be installed like any regular software. For guidance on setting up a local server, refer to the following tutorials:
